Although it is known to be a "risky" move - I did my own makeup on my wedding day! Do I recommend it...?
The struggle I've run into in the past whether it be for photoshoots, commercials, or events was even though the MUA's (make up artist's) were super talented, I hardly felt like I looked like myself.
I don't usually wear a lot of makeup to begin with, so that could be why or maybe it's just because some people can pull off more makeup styles than others.
I knew looking back on my wedding day photos I wanted to recognize myself. I wanted a look that would emphasize my beauty but still look natural + romantic.
I understand this isn't the look that every bride is going for - and I love that! I think makeup is an art form + every bride should play with it to create something they are proud of!
I felt really confident with my day-to-day make up look so I decided to move forward with the decision of doing my own makeup.
Several people advised me to do otherwise {including my wedding day coordinator} but I really stuck with my gut on this one. And I'm glad I did!
Instead of it being an added stress it was actually a nerve reliever. I took my time, enjoyed the moment and actually calmed down more in the process.
If doing your own makeup is something you feel good about I totally recommend it!
Now let's talk PRODUCTS:
Since my wedding was a day wedding. It needed to last in the heat + last all through the night.
From years of doing just about the same makeup look, I had an idea of how I wanted to do it but I had NO idea what products to use.
Leading up to the wedding I mainly used drug store foundation with a couple higher end products here + there. But I knew those products would not last the full time I needed them to.
In the planning process I learned there isn't really time for touch ups throughout the wedding + it's important to have makeup products that can not only withstand the heat of your body (apparently your body temperature goes crazy during weddings, who knew) but it also needs to photograph well {meaning products with no flashback}.
Below are the products I used for my wedding day + absolutely loved! I would recommend going to your local ULTA and trying them out for yourself!
