Uluwatu in my opinion is the most underrated spot in Bali. I can’t be the only one who thinks surfers are awesome and that the beach life is the best life?!
It’s one of those places where I just want to wear a bunch of my Roxy and Billabong stuff that I had when I was 10 and leave my hair unbrushed.
I think there is a special vibe Uluwatu has that you have to visit to understand.
My trip:
Taxi from Seminyak to Uluwatu • We set this taxi up through our AirBnB for 300k R (about $21)
Klapa Resort Bali
Suka Espresso This was in tie for my favorite restaurant in all of Bali! The atmosphere, the waiters, the menu - everything was perfect! We ate every meal here because we loved it so much! We actually tried one other place and although it was good it didn’t compare.
I’m sure everything on the menu here is incredible but these are the items we ordered that we highly recommend: Fish Tacos Pancakes Iced Latte Iced Matcha Latte And the best item on the menu *drum roll please* the vegan/gluten free brownie with ice cream! It is the best thing to ever touch my taste buds. We had it 3 times in a matter of two days.
Single Fin Although we didn’t get the chance to eat here we did visit and the place was so busy! It was located near popular beaches and looked to be “thee” place to be! I can easily say there were more surfers that hangout here then anyone else so the waves near there must be great! There is like a 5,000 R fee (which is just a couple cents) to get in to that beach and restaurant area.
Learn to surf with Dodo (Padang Padang beach) Surfing is a must when in Uluwatu. I mean Uluwatu is like the land of surfers so if you didn’t arriving wanting to learn you will definitely leave wanting to!
Dodo is a local who has been surfing at Padang Padang beach since he was a little kid. Him and his family run his little surf shop on the beach and it’s so nice to support someone so passionate about surfing and Bali!
It was only 300k R (about $21) for a 2 hour lesson, 2 surf boards and rash guard equipment, 2 lounge chairs and an umbrella for the day. Then the next day when we just wanted to rent the equipment for one hour it was only 100k R (about $7).
The learning part of surfing isn’t so hard. Takes about 2 minutes jumping from your stomach to your feet and then you get the idea. Why its nice to get a lesson is because he comes out in the water with you and gives you that extra push that you may need as a newbie. He also tells you when to stand up which we later found out when we tried on our own is something that takes practice to understand.
Some other places to checkout:
Diamond Beach
Pandawa Beach
W Hotel
Uluwatu Temple
Garuda Wisnu Kencana Cultural Park or GWK
What I would change:
I would say you need at least 4-7 days here. Just so you can relax and really take in the lifestyle.
I would stay some where on Jl. Labuansait or close to Padang Padang beach / Single Fin or Suka Espresso
Tips:
- Renting a scooter is the best way to get around, even when traveling with surfboards! It’s only like 100k R (about $7) per day.
Overview
Uluwatu is 100% my vibe; the ocean and the island life mixed with trendy, yummy food and coffee shops. I love the fung shi of things and the people in Uluwatu. It’s so special! I think next time I come this is where I’ll be spending most of my time. :)
